On Monday, August 27th at the 10th Anniversary of Fitz’s Supper Club, First and Ten, Celebrities at YOUR service, guests attended a Monday Night Football experience and gained a first down for those in challenging positions.
The red carpet outside Dominick’s Steakhouse was transformed into a tailgate party as guests marched across the football field to the sounds of the University of Arizona’s drum line to pose for their ESPN take home cover shots. Hostesses directed guests to the VIP reception on the roof top, they were bidding on one of a kind feature items, sampling themed cocktails and schmoozing with like-minded donors, celebrities, sponsors and volunteers. The decor was football chic and creative aspects were carried throughout the entire event; the stadium opened to the sound of Mike Phillips, a world renowned musician that is known for creating the ‘Saxanthem’, he performed the national anthem on his saxophone as guests stood allegiance to the flag before kickoff.
John Salley, 4X NBA Champion and returning host called the game as he brought his quick wit and humour to the guests, Arizona Cardinal’s President Michael Bidwill enlightened us on who Larry Fitzgerald Jr. is to him on and off the field, sharing some great locker room stories before introducing Larry to deliver his half time speech to his First Down Fund teammates in the room. Celebrity servers included Hall of Famers Warrick Dunn & Michael Irvin, a few of Larry’s teammates Patrick Peterson & D.J. Humphries, Arizona Coyotes and local heroes such as Seth Joyner. During the evening the guests were introduced to cast members of the Three Waiters who fooled the attendees acting as waiters and a maitre d' for hours preparing everyone for their final act as they performed multiple opera melodies. The event went into overtime as the guests mixed and mingled after the live auction, clearing out the stadium for another year leaving behind the chains of chain to so many in challenging positions with the funds raised throughout the evening for the Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund.
In 2018 to date the First Down Fund has made nearly $400,000 in grants and the First Down Fund will give another $200,000 in grants by the end of this calendar year. Thus far grants have been made to 23 organizations including school programs that provide access to technology for homeless youth, donation of a robotics classroom curriculum, funding a school program to provide books to 450 students and their family members, as well as grants to several other notable organizations such as the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund.
